Homeopathy uses substances to treat a disease when the same substance, in a more concentrated form, could cause symptoms similar to those seen in the patient. For example Apis mel is a homoeopathic remedy derived from the stinger of a bee. It is used to antidote bee stings or symptoms of localised pain, swelling and redness.

Dr Samuel Hahnemann (a doctor and chemist) began the medical system of homeopathy in Germany in the early 1800s. Since then it has been used extensively by doctors and homoeopaths in many countries such as Germany, France, the UK and India, it is only now becoming available for pets as more veterinarians are becoming qualified in the practice of homeopathy. We have a range of homeopathic singles and formula available to help you supplement your pet's ongoing treatment.

Do NOT use homeopathy (unless under the supervision of a veterinarian):

When your pet is very ill, not eating, has collapsed or is very lethargic or suffering from a major problem such as heart or kidney disease. Veterinary attention must be sought, and homeopathy may be used alongside conventional therapy.
When your pet is injured, bleeding, or in acute pain. Again seek veterinary attention, and homoeopathic remedies may be given at the same time, or on the way to the hospital.
When your pet has a life threatening condition such as tick poisoning, other poisoning, or has suffered a spider or snakebite, or has cancer.
As a sole treatment for worms, fleas, heartworm or instead of vaccination unless you are fully aware of the risk that you are taking and for some reason are unable to treat conventionally. There is no scientific backing to claims that nosodes etc are useful in this circumstance.

Seek veterinary attention and use homoeopathic remedies along side therapy.

Unless you are working with a homeopathic veterinarian or veterinarian who can help to distinguish serious from non-serious disease, you may risk your pet’s life, or your pet may suffer unduly where conventional treatment may save his life or ease pain. Homoeopathic remedies can be used at the same time and may assist recovery and return to health in these situations.

There are many well-meaning practitioners who love animals very much but just do not have the rigorous medical training a veterinarian undergoes to become specialist in their field.
